Arts Revival is Boosted by New Funding Formula
CVESD worked collaboratively with arts organizations in development of the District’s Visual and Performing Arts strategic plan. The strategic plan positioned the District well for significant changes in public education: California’s new funding formula for schools, and new state standards. The Board of Education was primed for a critical funding decision in 2014-15, when it announced its commitment to hire full-time VAPA instructors and provide arts instruction during the school day for all students. CVESD made an unprecedented $15 million investment in arts instruction, spread over three years. This also provided classroom teachers with release time for collaboration. The funding was embedded in the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). As part of the District’s one-to-one technology initiative, more than $3.5 million was allocated to purchase and distribute Lenovo devices so that by 2017-18 all students in grades 3-6 will have their own device to integrate technology throughout the school day. This year alone, $1.4 million was allocated toward technology through our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). In addition, $460,666 was allocated to hire additional Technology Equipment Technicians to support each District school with infrastructure, wireless, hardware, and software needs.
